We recently featured Pini Gurfil for his transformative single, Reborn, so we couldn’t wait to hear his latest release, Call It Art.
Establishing the mood with intricately layered and charismatically performed guitar and keys, Pini Gurfil opens Call It Art with the metaphorical and situational lyrics, “Dark suburban alley lit, by soft computer lights, chords becoming demons, angles, sprites…”
The opus expands into a luscious, acoustic, contemporary pop energy, and we are mesmerized. We appreciate the poetic prowess that Pini Gurfil exhibits and the passion with which he delivers his symbolic and profound lyricism.
Some highlights include the expansive, “Minds have been uncovered by some breaking-free new heart…”, and the self-realized and inspiring hook, “People call it madness, but we will call it art…”
Call It Art comes with a cinematic performance video which features producer Tom Goldstein alongside the visionary rising artist, as the pair bring to life the emotion and nuance of the composition visually.
When discussing the intention and message of Call It Art, Pini confesses, “This nostalgic song is a homage to music creation; a tribute to the way in which music transforms thoughts, minds, hopes and emotions.”
We learn that Pini was embraced by the world of music at a late stage in life, while already being an established university professor. This unusual transformation challenges social conventions pertaining to class, stature, and career, showing the magic that artistic expression can inflict upon any individual at any age in life. He says with wisdom and candour, “Most people would call it madness – but we call it art.”
Call It Art has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Pini Gurfil‘s wider discography including Reborn and Fade Away.
