We were recently introduced, albeit briefly, to moistbreezy when she made an appearance in Marxoxo’s cinematic and expressive, Sleeping Beauty inspired visual for Euphoria, so we couldn’t wait to dig deeper into the discography of the artist, and listen to her latest release, Once In A Lifetime!
Establishing the mood with a rising and pulsating synthscape, with textured percussion and atmospheric vocals singing the title of the track, moistbreezy teases Once In A Lifetime with intrigue and dimensionality.
The opus expands into a hyperpop meets electronica hybrid energy, and we are mesmerized as the rising artist opens Once In A Lifetime with the situational lyrics, “I’ve forgotten your face, still remember the feeling, I can’t describe, I’d have lost your name, if I hadn’t said it a million times…”
We appreciate the dynamic nature of the production, which we learn is produced by moistbreezy herself. Once In A Lifetime is the second single from her yet-to-be-announced debut album, following Planet Pressure, which was released earlier this year!
The narrative arc of the single is charming, and tells the story of a missed connection, with a glistening and polished pop vibe. Lyrical highlights from moistbreezy include, the profound “You slip further and further, I fall deeper into my mind…”, and the poetic, “Imaginary lover, ephemerally real one time, sensual undercover, if I could I would testify…”
moistbreezy tells us that the track pulls inspiration from mid-2000s house à la Eric Prydz’s smash hit Call On Me, and 80s-tinged pop from idols including Carly Rae Jepsen, Robyn, and Lady Gaga, although it is clear that moistbreezy is creating a sonic universe of her own!
Speaking on the story of the song, the rising artist from New York City confesses, “Imagine creating an elaborate fantasy with a fictional person in your head for months only to actually meet them in real life, but you get so caught up in the moment you don’t get their number and lose touch with them forever, that is what Once In A Lifetime is about. This idea sets up the plot for my upcoming concept album.”
