Ankur teams up with Bronte Kolbe on inspiring new single, Roots

Setting the tone with immersive keys and the wise lyrics, “Don’t listen to these lies, those whispers from the side, that sink inside your mind…”, Ankur and Bronte Kolbe open their collaborative single, Roots with charisma and intrigue.

Roots expands into bold and dynamic, genre expansive opus with depth and poetic nuance, as Ankur and Bronte Kolbe touch upon themes of the human condition and “the never-ending discontentment we can feel when chasing external pleasures whether it be achievements or other external stimulation.”

The wise duo add that “This often leads to destructive behaviour such as comparison to our peers and the feeling that we are not good enough. The only solution is to look inside of ourselves and to take it to the ‘Roots’.”

We appreciate the depth that Ankur and Bronte Kolbe share with the release, and love the authenticity of the piece as well as their delivery on the track which showcases vocal range, dynamism and personality.

We learn that Ankur is inspired by self-improvement, introspection, and the desire to empower his listeners to move forward from the place they are standing still. The rising artist says, “For me music is a conscious journey through a dark place with a guiding light at the end of the tunnel; a hopeful place filled with warmth.”

Roots comes with an epic and cinematic lyric video with unreal landscapes and outstanding visuals that bring to life the emotive nature of the song.

Since the release of his breakout EP Intermissions, Ankur has been steadily gaining momentum in Sydney’s thriving hip-hop scene.  Equally inspired by classic rap and modern pop/rock, his sound is a breath of fresh air, full of deeply relatable storytelling and dark, brooding soundscapes.  We can imagine that fans of Linking Park would be able to connect with Ankur, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.

We have added Roots to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Ankur including I Am and Old Friend.
