We recently featured Ruiz! for his immersive and intricate single, Falling, so we were excited to have the chance to listen to his brand new release, One Rule.
Setting the tone with a narration asking, “Is it one more for us and none for you?”, expanding into rolling drums and immersive guitar with vocal add libs and cerebral textures, Ruiz! opens One Rule with intrigue and dimensionality.
The rising artist from Sheffield takes us on a subversive journey with shooting lasers, a dynamic bass-line and layered vocals as he delivers an post-punk meets psychedelic rock opus seeped in emotion.
Speaking on the track, Ruiz! confesses, “This is my angry song, all two minutes and forty seconds of it. The anger is aimed at governments who think we, the people, are dumb and will tolerate their hypocrisies and blatant lack of respect for us, the general public.”
He adds with passion, “It’s my giving ‘the bird’ to all the dictators and narcissists that have been and gone, and a message to the people… We don’t have to tolerate this. Is it one rule for us and non for them? Power to the people, keep on keeping on!”
We appreciate the soundscape that Ruiz! has created, but his message and activism really shine through on One Rule, and we are grateful for artists who use their platform to bring to light the injustices of the system, and how we as a collective can move towards peace, together.
One Rule also comes with a music video featuring archive footage from wars and protests that showcases a physical manifestation of Ruiz!‘s important message. We have added One Rule to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Ruiz!‘s wider discography including Falling and 5 Seconds.
