Shockpowder releases thought-provoking ode to the natural world with new single, Talking to Plants

Setting the tone with bold and immersive electric guitar, with intricate drums, Shockpowder opens his new single, Talking to Plants with intrigue and dimensionality.

The opus expands into an alternative rock frequency, as Shockpowder sings introspectively, “Would you remember me? If I fell off the world?”, before a melodic guitar adds emotion to the composition. We appreciate the charismatic and atmospheric delivery of the vocals, as well as the epic range demonstrated by Shockpowder, also known as Joshua Scurfield.

Dubbed “metalgazing”, a fusion between metal and shoegaze, there is no doubt that Shockpowder is creating a sonic universe of his own. We learn that Talking to Plants uses Shockpowder’s well established nostalgic, heavy-but-dreamy sound to paint a picture of the green natural world, but through the eyes of someone who is terribly alone.

At a time when we need it the most, Shockpowder is raising awareness of our connection with nature, through his medium of hybrid metalgaze and we are hypnotised and here for it.

Shockpowder released his debut album The Final Thoughts of Gaia in 2019 and is currently releasing singles, expanding his sound and vision. He is inspired by “the post metal scene but are anchored with dark, pensive vocals and hazy distortion.” Joshua confesses that “the music is inspired by the wistful, nostalgic sensations we feel when we think about eternity and mortality.”

We appreciate the depth that Shockpowder shares with his artistry, soundscape and message, and have added Talking to Plants to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Shockpowder‘s wider discography including Blossom and Human.
