We recently featured Everything But The Everything as they found their groove with Sophia Prise on The Story, and again as they took us on a cerebral journey with their immersive single, Jump, so we were excited to hear on of their archive tracks, Intimacy.
Drawing us in with enigmatic and luscious guitar textures with percussive detailing and a high synth, Intimacy opens with intrigue and dimensionality.
The opus expands with bass and electric guitar into a moody, dark wave vibe and we are obsessed. Atmospheric vocals from singer and songwriter, Luke Sweeney, envelope us as the collaborators take us on a subversive lyrical journey with lyrics full of poetic nuance including, “If love is an ocean, you’re afraid to swim, another wave will come and swallow you…”
We appreciate the vibrato that Luke delivers and the cerebral high synth detailing which amplifies the journey in a more astral dimension, whilst Andrew Gomez gives us an epic performance on the Moog, and Landon Cisneros on the drums.
Citing Interpol, Pixies, Billy Idol and Depeche Mode as inspirations, we are obsessed with the canvas that Everything But The Everything create. Speaking on the creative process, artist and bassist Israel Chavarin confesses, “I kept tinkering with this song. Every time I thought it was complete we would find a new layer to add or a new sound to mesh into the fold. Took a little time to get it done but I think it was worth the wait.”
On collaborating with Luke Sweeney, Israel Chavarin tells us, “I had reached out to Luke after going to one of his shows in Oakland. I didn’t know him that well but we played a show together once and thought to reach out. I was super excited to have him agree to the collaboration. I was even more excited once I got his vocal stems.”
We love the soundscape and how anthemic the finale of the track is. We have added Intimacy to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Everything But The Everything.
