Billie Fitz releases immersive and introspective new single, Poets

Setting the tone with rippling guitar chords fused with intricate percussion and subtle synth notes, Billie Fitz opens Poets with atmospheric vocals and lyrical prowess.

In line with the title of the track, Billie Fitz takes us on an introspective, lo-fi, dream-pop journey into the psyche of a poet. We appreciate the immersive production and Billie’s lyrical nuance and romanticism. Highlights include the profound, “The ecstasy of life is full of pain and strife…”, and the vulnerable “I don’t know how to express myself or share my feelings…”

There is a luscious saxophone solo which dimensionalises the piece with a transcendental edge, before we experience textured harmonies as the opus breaks down emotively.

Poets also comes with a retro-tinged music video which features a charming performance from protagonist and multi-instrumentalist Billie Fitz. He cites Stevie Wonder, Mac Demarco, Rex Orange County, Kate Bush and Amy Winehouse as some of his influences, which we can feel coming through in his sound, although it is clear that Billie is creating a universe of his own.

Speaking on his upcoming record, Billie, who is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, says, “I’m currently working on an album. It’s being produced by Saam Jafarzadeh, who’s known for producing both albums by the band Her’s. This is a great honour for me because Her’s is one of my favourite bands.”

We have added Poets to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Billie Fitz‘s wider discography including Baby Comeback!
