9 o’clock Nasty team up with I am the Unicorn Head on emotive and vulnerable new single, Existential Dread

For the last six months, we have been following the growth of 9 o’clock Nasty with their singles, Playboy Driver, Darker Star and Team Player, so we were thrilled to learn that they just released the brand new, Existential Dread.

A big reason that we love the creations of 9 o’clock Nasty is in part to their originality, authenticity and charisma. We can assure you that Existential Dread fits that criteria perfectly, once more.

Kicking off with immersive drums, a luscious bass and guitar licks expanding into a synth melody with the situational lyrics, “I am climbing out, a hole I dug myself, when I look around there’s only worms…”

The piece has a more vulnerable edge compared to previous releases, which again helps us relate to the Leicester-based band as they sing about their emotions on the record, figuring out life and the human condition. We love the layered vocals, and harmonies, which give a more emotive vibe fused with memorable guitar hooks.

The track is in collaboration with the enigmatic, I am the Unicorn Head and the band describe the opus as a “new indie hybrid”. It’s actually really emo for the band to release Existential Dread, and we are fully here for it, as we stan a bit of emo and some minor chord progressions at KIMU HQ.

Existential Dread comes with a cinematic, film-noir performance visual with the band and I am the Unicorn Head, laced with some subversive archive footage. We always appreciate seeing our favourites in their performative element!

We have added the meaningful and introspective Existential Dread to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of 9 o’clock Nasty!
