Setting the tone with a dimensional bassline and bold drums, fused with luscious harmonies, Valère Géron opens You Don’t Want My Heart with intrigue, introspection and charm.
The opus expands into a soul-rock soundscape with elements of ska and 80s, and we are mesmerized. We appreciate the poetic nuance in Valère Géron‘s lyricism, along with his narrative driven style of songwriting.
You Don’t Want My Heart is the debut single from the Dutch born singer-songwriter, who is currently based in Sweden, and the composition is filled with authenticity, charisma and a sonic landscape that is nostalgic in style, and futuristic in terms of the production mix.
We learn that the sound and overall composition were inspired by Amy Winehouse’s 2006 album Back To Black, while also pulling from bands like The Gorillaz, The Beach Boys and The Police, but it is clear that Valère Géron is creating an avenue of his own.
Speaking on the creation of the track, Valère Géron confesses, “When I found that bassline I knew there was something, the song wrote itself from there.”
The emerging artist adds, “The lyrics paint a picture of a passionate but dire relationship that both people are better off without. I felt like expressing that last push you have to give when you’re at the end of the road with someone.”
We appreciate the depth and authenticity that Valère Géron shares with his debut, and we are excited to hear that this is the signature sound that he plans to build on! We have added You Don’t Want My Heart to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate further releases from the rising star!
