Hovering Shrikes release cinematic and dimensional new single, Oh My God My Chemicals

Setting the tone with rippling guitar and enigmatic guitar, fused with intricate percussion, Hovering Shrikes open Oh My God My Chemicals with intrigue and the situational lyrics, “She had a different perfume, she had a different perfume, she had a different perfume on every part of her body…”

The opus expands into a luscious, alternative rock meets new wave soundscape, as Hovering Shrikes explore the concept of “giving oneself permission to be entranced, infected, haunted, and held captive by someone unknown — or unknown in this way — for a night of indelible scents.”

Oh My God My Chemicals is full of poetic nuance and intimate descriptors, as the band take us on a journey and tease the sound of their upcoming full-length album, due for release in November.

The single comes with a green and purple toned chemical-inspired visual, which brings to life the immersive nature of the narrative perfectly. We learn that Hovering Shrikes is the result of more than a decade of collaboration between poet-lyricist Ryan Wilson and multi-instrumentalist Casey Frantum, who are now joined by Dan Duncan on drums and Ian Stephens on bass.

We deeply appreciate the passion delivered in the vocal performance, and how dimensional the production is, exploding mid-way with vibrant drums, transporting us into another realm.

Combining a shared love of cinematic storytelling, which really comes to life in Oh My God My Chemicals, it is no surprise that Hovering Shrikes‘ live shows have drawn comparisons to Pulp and The Cure, but it is also clear that they are creating a universe of their own.

We have added Oh My God My Chemicals to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Hovering Shrikes‘ wider discography including Dead Sleep Scrolls and Nectarine.
