Gemïny takes us on a romantic adventure, and inspires us to dance with new single, Hesitation

We recently featured Gemïny for his fierce and evocative debut single, Too Close, so we were thrilled to hear that he had also released the brand new, Hesitation!

Setting the tone with dimensional and layered electric guitar, Gemïny opens Hesitation with atmospheric vocals with the situational lyrics, “Heartbreaking, I know you’re still aching, from the things that you say they put you through…”

The opus expands with a dynamic, soul meets dance-pop soundscape to convey a meaningful message about the human condition, through a positive, vibrant and cathartic lens. Gemïny invites us into his mind, emotions and little bit of drama with the opus, and we are obsessed.

Lyrical highlights include the charming invitation, “Baby come on spin with me, little dance to sweep you off your feet…”, the escapist, “We can roll the windows down, just forget about our lives…”, and the reassuring, “Babe I’ll be your captain, save ′em, put your trust in me…”

Overall, Hesitation is filled with poetic nuance, allowing us to join Gemïny on his courting adventure. We learn that Hesitation was inspired by the beginnings of a star-crossed love, “filled with unrealistic promises, uncanny idolization, and the universally shared experience of uncertainty and confusion in the courting stages.”

Speaking further on the meaning of the song, Gemïny confesses, “It’s funny, Hesitation draws a very specific memory for me. A time where I got into this fight at a house party over a girl. Which if you ask anyone who knows me that’s completely out of character.”

The rising artist from Columbia, USA, elaborates, “I’m an extremely prideful person so I’m big on maintaining my image strong advocate for remaining unbothered and not chasing at all. But there I was a freshman twelve shots in and highly bothered breaking walls and smashing tables. A bad look overall. But I think that really incapsulates the essence of hesitation, the juvenile way you act to impress a crush back in grade school. That conflicting mix of excitement and fear that reeks of teen spirit.”

We appreciate the authenticity and relatability of the tale, and the quality of the soundscape is frankly out of this world, in line with Gemïny‘s existing discography featuring his debut single, Too Close and his sophomore release, Avalanche.

The message of the song is that Summer isn’t over and to keep dancing, and that is exactly what Hesitation has inspired us to do! The composition is mixed by TJ Routon and mastered by Jeremy Chua.

The single influenced by Hayley Williams, Michael Jackson and Usher, which we can feel come through in the piece, but what really places Gemïny in a league of his own, is his powerhouse vocals.

Gemïny is a North Carolina-born, Columbia-based alt-pop artist who began his music career studying music composition at the University of South Carolina.  We learn that after a physically abusive relationship, his motivation as an artist transformed beyond his passion for music and inclination for expression. He raised money for mental health organizations and played with cover bands at benefit concerts before turning his attention to recording his music which is an extension of his mental health advocation.

We have added Hesitation to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whist we continue to stream Gemïny‘s wider discography!
