By now you will have read our features on Dream of a Man in a Top Hat for their singles, Cold Hard Dirt and All Time Is Borrowed Time, so we were thrilled to have the chance to review their latest release, Eggshell Minefield.
With another unique title, the conceptual duo open Eggshell Minefield with textured vocals and hair-raising electric guitar, needless to say, we are obsessed.
Expanding into an industrial power-pop soundscape, we are impressed with the clarity of the mix and the lyrical depth of the hook, “Walking on tiptoes, through an Eggshell Minefield…”. We can always count on Dream of a Man in a Top Hat to deliver a high concept story arc for each of their releases, and this is one of the elements that give the rising duo a sense of irrevocable uniqueness.
The psychedelic, alternative rock meets post-punk duo from Boston take us on a cerebral adventure and we appreciate the poetic nuance of the lyrics as well as the vibrancy of the soundscape on Eggshell Minefield.
What is equally interesting with Eggshell Minefield, is the parallels to the the human condition and the current state of society that the duo touch upon with the release.
Lee Leffler (guitars, keyboards, vocals, lyrics) and Michael Frackleton (drums, bass, percussion, keyboards, vocals, lyrics) are the members of Dream of a Man in a Top Hat. It is no surprise that in writing about their artistry, bloggers and curators described their music as: cool, grooving, swaggering, psychedelic, experimental, wild, infectious, seductive, chaotic and unique.
We have added Eggshell Minefield to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Dream of a Man in a Top Hat‘s wider discography!
