Exposé: Why I Quit Working for Burberry, by x_23arv

A powerful exposé on Burberry has surface on Twitter, recounting the racism within the British fashion company. It is already known that Burberry burn their clothes to avoid them being sold at discount and given to homeless people, in order to protect their “brand identity”.

The recent exposé by x_23arv on Twitter goes into detail about white supremacy, appropriation and oppressive behaviours to staff, the environment and minority groups from within the company. You can read the full story via Twitter, and we have also extracted the text below.

i kind of had my doubts about burberry before applying, given their racist past (the 2019 noose dress controversy). but i said, “let me give them the benefit of the doubt.” so i applied, got interviewed. immediately i got red flags. on my first interview (with a cis white male) i asked to use the restroom and was denied… it was very weird. like how do you not let interviewees use the bathroom? i kind of wrote it off-but it felt very racist… on my second day they made me cry for sharing ideas. i have never cried at a job before. the manager told me to “stop pushing an agenda” and basically stay in my role because i was really concerned by all the plastic they were wasting.

i don’t even know why i agreed to the role because the pay was embarrassingly low and not enough to cover my life expenses-i guess i was just curious and eager to be part of burberry. the straw on the camels back was when we received burberry yoga mats. i’m sorry, the british literally pillaged india. they massacred thousands of tribes people. they systemically extracted resources with violence. to this day south asian countries are financially enslaved to british banks. the brand has done 0 work to redeem this dark past. yet they feel they can sell yoga mats… they feel they can sell wellness when they’re toxic af. i guess my intuition was right. burberry is a racist brand. it’s vampiric, inauthentic, and quite frankly demonic.

it’s very creepy how these brands can have whole manuals about their code of conduct and values. but they don’t mean anything. they use these fake values to virtue signal. they hire diverse models to virtue signal. it’s not for inclusion, it’s allIIll for the bottom line. they want chinese peoples money. they want arab money. they want indian money. they want black money. they don’t give af about non whites on a genuine level. they don’t have the sensibility to empathize with non white narrative. they claim they want to work towards wellness and diversity but they LITERALLY do not give a fuck about anything but the bottom line. the noose dress or appropriating yoga doesn’t feel accidental. it feels like racist dog whistles, there’s no way “you didn’t know”. you knew. and you went through with it. because it’s a white supremacist nationalistic brand. oh well. to me these brands look like sinking slave ships. struggling to make it in the future. i’m glad i got the experience. it fueled my passion even more. these brands don’t get it. there’s so much space for people who do to knock them out the water. times up.
