Establishing a mood with an intricate folk guitar energy, Scot Free Sessions open their single Ford Motel with the situational lyrics, “The sun shines through the windshield at the Ford Motel, it might be Sunday morning, but who can tell?”
The song expands with electric guitar and drums to create an alternative country meets Americana fusion that has us hypnotized. Ford Motel paints a vibrant picture of connecting with the open road, and has us yearning for adventure!
Scot Free Sessions is a collaboration of musicians brought together by Edmonton, Alberta songwriter Scot Robinson to provide a vessel for his songs. Ford Motel is the debut single from the forthcoming album Edmonton Skyline to be released in the Fall of 2022.
The track features an all star cast of Bobby Cameron (Long John Baldry) on vocals and guitar, James LoMenzo (John Fogerty, Slash) on bass and Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan) on drums.
We love the Scot Robinson brand of immersive story telling and the soundscape that flows cohesively with the message of the track. Some lyrical highlights include the escapist, “Just give me pavement and rubber and the radio, another tank of gas and away I go…”, and the introspective “I can”t be you, I can only be me…”
Scot Free Sessions is one of the few artists to be named a Five Time Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC). The ISC is one of the most prestigious songwriting contests in the world regularly receiving over 20,000 entries each year from over 125 countries. Among the judges were Tom Waits, Coldplay and George Thorogood.
Scot had the good fortune to workshop the songs with some of the most respected songwriters in the Americana genre. The songs were test run, sliced and diced, kicked around, praised and encouraged by Americana icons such as Hayes Carll, Dan Bern, Mary Gauthier, Butch Hancock, Bonnie Hayes, Joe Henry, Rodney Crowell, Kevin Welch and Ray Wylie Hubbard.
We have added Ford Motel to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we wait for Edmonton Skyline to be released in the Fall of 2022.
