Establishing a mood with an enigmatic and reverberating electric guitar, Oska Zaky opens his new single, Plastic with atmosphere, emotion and light percussion. He sings the lyrics, “I’ve been wasting away from days in days out, I’m in trouble running away from nothing…” with repeated words for intrigue and design, and we are obsessed.
Oska then expands into a faster flow, fused with high hats and a dimensional kick before singing the hook, “This love is plastic, this ain’t the real thing, I’ve been erratic, chasing my feelings…”
Plastic is about the feeling of being “lost in the loop”. The rising artist from the U.K. says, “I think a lot of people can relate to loosing yourself in a relationship especially during those COVID days.”
Oska elaborates, “My body and mind fell limp and just went with the flow. I felt like I had no control over what life was doing to me. I couldn’t see a way out. The ending relflects this. Lightly detuned versed vocals lost in transit.”
Oska Zaky has an upcoming album, with reference to which, he says, “I have spent years pulling this together and finally I am so pleased to be able to share info about it.”
The self-shot music video for Plastic features our protagonist in three scenarios, a wardrobe with candles, in a music room with a piano and drum kit, and on a rug in the great outdoors with some epic tree alignment. We love the performance and the edit of the video suits the soundscape.
Speaking on the video symbolism Oska Zaky says, “In this video I play three characters Dark, Limbo & Light. The spaces in and between trauma and pain. I found these characters and movements represent and reflect the way I was feeling during and post this relationship.”
He confesses, “I followed lust and my erratic feelings into a dark place. The set design is really thought through and each location is really specific to the song. If you look at the props and things that fill the frame I think the journey will unwind more clearly.”
We have added Plastic to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and are streaming Oska Zaky‘s wider discography whilst we wait for his debut album!
