Setting the tone with a pulsing electro pop canvas, Winne Ama opens her new single, Here I Go with the introspective, “I was used to hiding what I want, and panicking when my name was called I’d bolt, and anything sure to draw an eye would make me feel shy and small”.
The production, delivery, pace and narrative are cohesively exciting as we are introduced to the prowess of the artist with the song. Here I Go is an empowering track and Winnie’s confidence builds with the lyrics, “I’ve got lightening underneath my feet, synergy moving my anatomy in harmony, higher than I’ve been and stronger than I once believed.”

We love the synths the production and the overall build and energy of the track which was produced with Sim0n Le Saint.
Here I Go continues to build in confidence with the chorus, “Here I go, now I’m fading up, and the game is on, I’m rising cos i’m ready to take it on.”
The use of “fading up” is clever, conscious and a nuanced way to describe expansion. Fans of Nao, Lauryn Hill, Jessie Ware, Banks, Macy Gray, Lykke Li, Tove Lo, Billie Holiday, Jhene Aiko, Nina Simone and Eryka Badu will like Winnie Ama’s work and we also particularly love her single, What Are We – which can be streamed in Winnie’s Top Tracks and we have added both Here I Go and What Are We to our New Music Spotlight playlist.
Winnie Ama is part of a new breed of electronic artists blending conscious lyrics, soulful alternative RnB vocals with dance, house and pop rhythms. The Belfast born and raised Northern-Irish-Ghanaian artist has had success with multiple MusicWeek UK Club Chart top 10’s and support from BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Ulster referencing her fresh writing style and distinctive voice.
Winnie Ama’s writing style is inspired by Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse. She switched from writing poetry and stories to writing music. Then she studied jazz vocals before making her commercial music debut in 2019 writing 3 songs in collaboration with Francis Groove that made the top 10 in MusicWeek’s UK Urban/Black Club Chart – Can’t Wait #1, I Swear #7 and Born to Win #6. She also appeared in Photo Vogue in 2019. Her solo debut ‘What Are We’ was in MusicWeek’s Black Club Chart for 6 weeks, peaking at number 11.
