London’s The Fades release profound and introspective commentary on the job market in Lost My Job

Setting the tone with memorable and textured guitar riffs, The Fades open their latest single Lost My Job with the lyrics “you call me up and say you wanna come and live at my place, I don’t know how you think that we’ll both live on minimum wage”.

It’s brilliantly produced and emotively performed, but the subject matter is actually really sad. The hook goes, “I lost my job today, they’ve taken all my pay, how can it be this way?”

Speaking on the meaning of the track, The Fades profoundly say, “There’s a lot of talk of people losing their jobs at the moment and the beginning of the year is traditionally a time when people start looking for new employment.
There’s also a cost of living crisis and to be out of work right now is genuinely unnerving.”

The Fades sing about the struggle with this predicament and the subsequent dilemmas it brings, with lead singer Dave lamenting about “all the gear he’s had to sell on eBay to help ends meet”.

It’s a really hard time for independent artists, which is why we love to platform them as much as possible. The thoughtful and introspective lyrics are juxtaposed with a post-punk rock groove and epic chorus.

Lost My Job was released as a joint single with the track Time is Right – a raucous in your face “garage rock singalong chant”, which you can also stream on all platforms.

The band expects to deliver a full album later this year, meanwhile, you can get into their current bops below!

The Fades are London based brothers Dave, on vox and guitar, and James Lightfoot on bass, alongside lifetime school friend Jonny Barnard on guitar and Alastair “Flash” Thorpe on drums.

The band has been picked up by Zane Lowe and playlisted on XFM, which quickly generated buzz, and we cannot wait to dive into their discography and hear the new album.
