How to Declutter For Your Wellbeing

Having a home that is filled with clutter or any other space, physical and virtual, can cause you a lot of stress. Being surrounded by clutter can make your living space difficult to navigate, and it can actually be a health hazard. Depending on where you are in the clutter sphere, it can be a trip hazard as well as a breeding ground for mould and other nasties to grow. A lot of clutter can also prevent you from moving on in your life. It can transport you back to a period of time in your life in which you are happier or sadder. Either way, it is not allowing you to live in the now. Decluttering is good for your health in so many ways. Not only does it reduce stress, but it also makes it easy to find things and can engender a sense of peace. It can also help you to sleep better. So, all around, decluttering is a huge factor in creating a better sense of wellbeing.

Start Slowly

If we are emotionally attached to items, it can make the decluttering process a lot more difficult. If this is you, then you are probably best to start the decluttering process slowly and build it up over time. Begin by going through drawers and getting rid of any clear rubbish or broken items that you are never going to use again. Start with about ten minutes a day and slowly filter through things. Clutter is not limited to your home either. Think about the clutter in your car, or on your computer, or on your phone. Start throwing things away and deleting old files you never use. The more space you can create, the fresher, lighter and less stressed you will feel. With virtual spaces decluttering will make things run a lot smoother. If your computer is particually slow, read more tips and find ways to free up space. Once you start the decluttering process, it will get easier over time.

Storage

Your home is not a storage unit, and the same can be said for your car and computer. You should not clog up your spaces with things you no longer want. Old furniture, for example, should be sold off, donated or thrown away. You are allowed to buy new things for yourself. If you struggle for space on a computer, why not use the cloud and transfer old photos or use an external hard drive. It may be good to have a little more difficulty looking at those old photos and this will help you move on from the past.

Put a Box in Your Cupboard

It doesn’t have to be in your cupboard. It could just be in your bedroom. Having a box conveniently placed where you would normally get dressed allows you to toss in anything that no longer fits or just does not make you look and feel good anymore. Most peoples cupboards and wardrobes are filled with old junk that would be better off being given away. So, start your ex clothes collection and make space for new and improved clothes
