As someone who has seen quite the hair-volution over the last twelve months from man bun to skinhead to preppy to this sort of hybrid sometimes up and sometimes down state that it is currently in, my hair dressing process hasn’t exactly been the most regular. So when I was invited to experience Johnny’s Chop Shop on Marshall Street (parallel to Carnaby Street), I couldn’t resist.
Let me go into a little more detail here – as someone who has prided themselves on curating their personal space at all times – in a somewhat OCD way sometimes, the aesthetic of Johnny’s Chop Shop serves neon minimalist rock and roll with a refined edge – so I was immediately drawn to it. It’s not only a barbershop though, but also a male grooming brand co-created by entrepreneurs Steven Ross and Miles Dunkley which first launched in 2014 at Topman’s Oxford Circus store.
The real highlight of the experience was Dani – The Female Barber also known as @toastiestyles – yes there’s some level of novelty involved in having a charming and beautiful female barber tend to your mane, however it was her skill set and shears game that really sealed the deal which explains why she’s on the current cover of Barber NV Magazine!
You can explore Johnny’s Chop Shop products at Boots stores around the country – my personal favourites are the beard oil and dry shampoo. Visit Johnny’s at 33 Marshall Street, Monday to Wednesday 11am to 8pm, Thursday to Saturday 11am to 9pm and Sunday 12pm to 6pm. Visit johnnyschopshop.co.uk for more info!
