The rise and the fall, redemption and forgiveness, and the genius of Renzo Rosso are really the key themes of the rather epic news that just broke. John Galliano is to take over the creative direction of Maison Martin Margiela.
This is huge for a number of obvious reasons, the anonymity of the house is about to undergo the biggest “coming out” in the history of fashion, the fallen design genius’ synergy with the brand is unquestionable – from aesthetic, to detail, to personality and it also showcases a beautiful demonstation of a fashion comeback – which of course everyone loves because the industry is essentially one egotistical soap opera.
“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul,” said Rosso, president of OTB. “John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time — a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home.”
