Drawing us in with a drum riff, an intricate piano performance, textured percussion and a timeless guitar soundscape, Virgins at Heart open Unlimited Showers with a captivating timbre alongside the reflective lyrics, “Fire for two, the dream didn’t last, but we’re on it again, a walk in the past, changing the world, unlimited power…”

We immediately connect with the philosophical nature of the prose and the raw emotional quotient of the track itself. There is no doubt that Unlimited Showers holds metaphorical depth too, and would be perfect for a cerebral TV show like Nine Perfect Strangers.

In essence, the song circles around the instability of human connection, as well as the illusion of renewal. It suggests we believe that we can start over or remake the world, but remain trapped in looped patterns. The track feels highly zeitgeist in the face of so much global turmoil and a collective spiritual awakening, but it’s also very real and serves a commentary on a system that keeps us in a sunken place.

It is cleverly written so it can be perceived on a human-to-human level but also on a global scale. The idea of working it out with someone new hints at a cycle where love connections are replaced rather than resolved.

There is also a tension between dependence and independence. The song references notions of warmth and reliability, but only “when you are on your own”, ergo conditional intimacy instead of mutually beneficial. The repeated pea to be lifted up feels like a mantra, but also a nod to exhaustion and the idea of seeking rescue and peace.

The band tells us, “Unlimited Showers portrays a sense of renewal and starting over, symbolized by the act of taking showers. The lyrics suggest a willingness to move on from past conflicts and mistakes, offering support and comfort to someone in need of solace and a fresh start.”

We learn that Virgins at Heart is a Stockholm-based band made up of Gustav Rosén (bass, vocals), Anders Nordström (guitar, vocals), Johan Bjurling (keys, vocals), and Jonas Tyrestad (drums, vocals), with Bjurling also taking the lead as the group’s main producer. Whilst the musicians have been playing together since the early 2000s, it wasn’t until later that they began focusing seriously on recording their music.
