We previously featured SAMBOX and Anita Barbereau as they welcomed us into their transcendental and comforting universe with the immersive, Cocooning, so when heard that the creators were back with Unity, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Unity is an enchanting journey through sound, where classical elegance meets electronic modernity in a beautifully cohesive and deeply emotional piece. The single opens with an intricate and delicate piano arrangement, exuding an ethereal, astral quality that gently sets the tone. As the piano plays, Anita Barbereau’s stunning and emotive cello performance sweeps in, adding layers of depth and melancholy to the atmosphere.

The duo behind Unity consists of SAMBOX, a French music producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who handles the keyboard, piano, and programming, and Anita Barbereau, a highly skilled cellist formerly with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they blend their talents to create an evocative and seamless fusion of electronic and classical sounds.

Their collaboration began when Anita Barbereau discovered SAMBOX’s work on streaming platforms in 2023. Drawn to his music, she reached out to him, and their shared passion for creating unique soundscapes led to the production of Unity. This partnership, rooted in mutual admiration, has flourished through their creative synergy.

SAMBOX and Barbereau‘s influences span a wide variety of genres, including lounge, ambient, chillout, downtempo, deep house, and jazz. Both artists have classical backgrounds, and their collaboration infuses these roots with a modern electronic twist, merging decades of musical experience to create serene, cinematic compositions.

Unity was recorded in SAMBOX’s home studio in France. The track is the result of SAMBOX’s two decades of expertise in electronic music combined with Barbereau’s refined classical sensibilities. Their complementary styles came together effortlessly, resulting in a deeply emotive and cohesive piece.

The underlying vision for Unity revolves around the idea of a gentler, more peaceful world. The song’s narrative is seen through the eyes of a little boy and his bear from the moon, creating a poetic and imaginative metaphor that reflects the innocence and tranquility the duo aims to convey in their music.

We connect deeply with the syncopated nature of the opus, as well as the atmospheric and dynamic vocal production. The cerebral sound design feels fresh and enticing, allowing us to connect with the authenticity that UNITY exudes with her work, retaining our attention throughout the composition.

The rising star tells us that she has created SOMEWHERE IN TIME with the intention “to take listeners on a cosmic journey deep into the wormhole, where time distorts and the consciousness becomes omnipresent, unfolding the perception of reality that’s never been possible before.”

SOMEWHERE IN TIME comes with a stunning and transcendental music, video showcasing a captivating performance from UNITY as she expresses her hyperreality in outer space, wears a fierce “up do” that reminds us of Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way video, and taps into a conscious force that invites us to merge with the futuristic essence of the artist.

UNITY cites “lush 70s rock such as Pink Floyd, the evocative aesthetics of FKA Twigs, and the experimental fervour of hyperpop” as influences although there is no doubt that the creator is manifesting a universe of her own.
