We previously featured Tomasz Kowalczyk and Seif Limami for the dimensional and cerebral album, AMBASADORIA, so when we heard that the visionary composer was back with a track titled, Romanticism of Psychedelic Customs, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Romanticism of Psychedelic Customs opens with an intricate piano performance by Benita Rose, delicate and tapping into a high emotional quotient. The delivery is masterful, with subtle tempo shifts to maximise the graceful quotient and dramatic core of the piece.

We appreciate the brooding notes juxtaposed with rippling motifs like waves of the universe. The opus is dynamic and of course nods to some of the greats including Chopin and Beethoven. We connect with the creative ebbs and flows that manifest with elegance, allowing for introspective moments and an almost meditative aura.

There is no doubt that the music of Tomasz Kowalczyk reveals a world of extraordinary emotional depth. With this piece, the psychedelic nuances are subtle, but wholly cemented by the artwork for the opus.

Romanticism of Psychedelic Customs blends delicate beauty with powerful intensity, and there is no doubt that the piece would be perfect for the score of a trippy TV show like Nine Perfect Strangers.

A prolific Polish composer, virtuoso pianist, poet, and author, Kowalczyk has released more than thirty albums since 2018, exploring genres ranging from solo piano works to film and electronic music.

Benita Rose describes his compositions as deeply spiritual and transformative, illuminating “life’s darkest crevices” with hope, light and humanity. Central to his music is the idea of polyphony, where multiple voices within the piano interact like a conversation. It is clear how Benita Rose emphasizes how each musical line must respond organically to the others, creating an integrated universe of sound.

Drawing us in with a glistening, dimensional synthscape with astral tones and strummed nuances, expanding with a sublime guitar melody Tomasz Kowalczyk & Seif Limami open PERSEIDS with a peaceful frequency, before the track switched into a cerebral and meditative zone, taking us by surprise.

The opus evolves with a cinematic vibe into a luscious electric guitar performance with celestial tones and an almost high octane, cosmic energy – needless to say, we are completely enthralled. The piece showcases instrumental mastery, originality and an authenticity, meandering between the meditative and the dynamic.

There is an almost 8-bit middle eight, which again keeps us fully engaged before an anthemic and emotive finale again with the astral high notes and a transcendental guitar performance, leading to an awe inspiring conclusion! PERSEIDS comes with a charming animated music video that brings to life the intention of the composers, manifesting their universe and adding depth to their multi-disciplinary art.

With reference to the composition, Seif Limami tells us, “Perseids is the song that has the wider filed of expressions in the album, the song starts with a smooth, the intentions behind the intro melody was recreating a childhood dream of having a rollercoaster ride. The second part of the song is a long delay lead guitar part that describes the echoes going on the human brain right after a rollercoaster ride, the final part has a more classic rock tone and phrasing, reminding myself that am no longer a child and that life went faster than I ever expected.”

Tomasz Kowalczyk & Seif Limami have also released Dolly which opens with a haunting synth arpeggio, evolving with intricate guitars and a cinematic approach both sonically and visually, with the Blair Witch Project style music video. The guitar performances are, once again, simply out of this world. The soundscape is breathtaking and cohesive.

There are cerebral elements with laser-like electronica sound design, a momentary glitch pop moment with tribal drums, a shooting EDM synth and a rebuild that feels almost galactic. The accompanying video has great VFX, and an almost DMT trip approach to bring to life a psychedelic approach to their work, inviting us to choose the red or blue pill/door.

Speaking on the opus, Seif Limami confesses, “Dolly is a song where a different mix of emotions is in place. [It is] an ambiguous story end leaving you waiting for the next chapter…”

We love the depth that manifests with Tomasz Kowalczyk & Seif Limami‘s artistry, and could imagine the compositions would be mind-blowing in a live setting, especially with their high emotional quotient.
