Our obsession with the catalogue of Emma Forgette seems to grow with every listen. We have previously featured the talented artist for her songs Me and the Moon and Somebody’s Somebody, so when we heard that the star was back with The Text I Never Sent, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to share our experience.

Establishing the mood with an intricate acoustic guitar soundscape and astral frequency, Emma Forgette opens The Text I Never Sent with the situational lyrics, “Saw your name out of my phone, I thought I’ll answer it when I’m alone, thinking I’d have tomorrow, but now you’re gone, and I’m staring at the words I never said…”

Immediately we are enthralled by the narrative of the track and the emotional depth that Emma is sharing with her authenticity. The prose feels highly relatable and perfect for a cinematic moment in a Hollywood film that reflects the themes of the lyricism.

We learn that the song is inspired by the real-life loss of Emma’s grandfather, and the draft text that she never had the chance to send. She tells us how the song is designed to capture the pain of “pride, timing and words left hanging.”

The chorus hook is intended to turn “a simple phone message into a powerful symbol of unfinished business and grief.” Emma confesses that this is one of the hardest songs she’s ever had to sing, which truly comes through in her delivery.

Lines like, “I could have swallowed my pride, said ‘I love you’ one more time…” really cut deep and remind us to stay in touch with our relatives even when times are tough and we might not always see eye to eye. For the transmission of this wisdom and her message, we are grateful.
