Drawing us in with a vinyl frequency and an immersive guitar soundscape, The Shrines open Spilled Ink with a brooding layered vocals and situational prose with metaphorical depth and philosophical nuance.

The opus expands with a captivating melody, astral harmonies and a cerebral tale that we simply cannot get enough of. The emotional quotient of the composition tangible, and the charisma that the duo perform with feel authentic and cinematic. There is no doubt that Spilled Ink would be perfect for a dark-core Hollywood or Netflix synch deal.

We appreciate the vocal production, and the crisp and saturated nature of the mix which is evocative, in line with the wider concept of the track. Fans of Queens of the Stone Age will definitely be able to connect with what The Shrines create, although there is no doubt that the Danish rock duo are manifesting a universe of their own.

The Shrines exhibit a strong sense of wanderlust and have blended their Scandinavian rock sound with Hamburg’s raw vibes over two years. They completed their debut album, Your Damned Time, in Denmark, releasing it in June 2022. Now, they travel the world on a sailboat that doubles as their music studio, powered by solar panels. We love an ecologically and consciously astute artist project!

We learn that Spilled Ink was written and recorded on the boat with Omer Margolin in Kalamata, Greece. Since adopting their nomadic lifestyle, The Shrines have played at various venues and festivals in Denmark, showcased in Soho, London, and performed for the Danish ambassador in Latvia. They have also supported British rock band Saint Agnes in Germany and Austria.

We love what The Shrines stand for and what they produce, and we have added Spilled Ink to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the duo’s wider discography, including the entirety of Your Damned Time!
