Our obsession with The Mars McClanes seems to grow with every listen. We previously featured The Worriers, Wherever You Go and Broke Kid, so when we heard that the talented creators were back with December Songs, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Establishing the mood with a rippling guitar soundscape and syncopated drum work, The Mars McClanes open December Songs with a captivating vocal timbre and the situational, yet metaphorical prose, “Got some cash and stashed it away, soon it will he gone, blue and green to orange and gray…”

The opus expands with the instrumental mastery and visionary song creation energy that we have come to expect from The Mars McClanes. Speaking conceptually on the release, the band shares the statement, “If we’re honest…the Grinch had a valid point. Nothing can make us more conscious of our own misery than watching joy in others during the holidays.”

They continue, “A state of seasonal bliss is like an exclusive nightclub, complete with a bouncer and velvet rope. Waiting outside is tolerable—right up until the moment the fortunate ones get to skip the line. At that point, you’re more outside than ever.”

We love the philosophical energy that the artists bring to life with their universe, and connect deeply with the Portland band’s authenticity and signature indie-rock meets alternative country hybrid sound.

We have added December Songs to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whistle we continue to stream The Mars McClanes.

Setting the vibe with bold and immersive drums, fused with intricate guitar, we are already hypnotized with The Mars McClanes‘s latest single, The Worriers.

The band opens with philosophical lyrics, and the cerebral and intelligent adage “love leaks out, it’s a chemical you know” allows us to further understand the message of the song, which is an existential commentary on whether it is worth worrying or just choosing peace and living each day at a time.

The Mars McClanes remind us of The Beatles with elements of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but it is clear that they are creating a sound of their own. The Worriers is a follow up to the Portland based band’s debut single, and we are obsessed.

The band have been developing their brand of love-gone wrong lyrics inspired by “scar tissue from two divorces, war deployments, and life’s assorted curveballs”.

When discussing the theme of the song, guitarist Russ Chapman recalls, “My grandmother lived to be 99, so I spent most of my teenage Sunday afternoons at an assisted living facility listening to an elderly gang obsess over their life’s regrets.”

“It wasn’t their mistakes, what ate them were the chances they failed to take. The Worriers is our cautionary song for the cautious”, concludes the esoteric band member.

We love the depth, message and atmospehric middle eight, and have added The Worriers to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their debut single, Riddle!
