<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We previously featured <a href="https://karlismyunkle.com/2026/07/03/teanko-explores-authenticity-with-thought-provoking-new-single-we-still-believe-the-voice/"><strong>Teanko</strong> for exploring authenticity with the thought-provoking single, <strong><em>We Still Believe the Voice</em></strong></a>, so when we heard that the visionary Dutch artist was back with <strong><em>Between Two Selves</em></strong>, we were curious to say the least, and couldn&#8217;t wait to listen and share our experience. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Between Two Selves </em></strong>opens with a high-octane and dynamic 80s guitar soundscape, expanding with textured drums and intricacy before <strong>Teanko</strong> shares poignant reflective (literally) lyrics about coming to terms with self-realization. His vocals are emotive and the journey feels very real and relatable. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The message of the track invites us to look at the person we once were and the person we have become. It feels very zeitgeist, and feels apt for how many of us are experiencing society and ourselves today in the face of so much anxiety and global turmoil. For this, we are grateful. There is something deeply human about the way <strong>Teanko</strong> approaches this transition. He acknowledges every version of himself and finding peace somewhere in between.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We learn that in essence, <em><strong>Between Two Selves</strong></em> is about growing into a new chapter without rejecting the chapters that came before. On a humankind level, this is very poignant. It can be interpreted on an individual and collective, universal level. As much as it is about retirement, reflection, old photographs, memories and the realization that life doesn&#8217;t have to remain in constant motion, it feels bigger. <strong>Teanko</strong> explains that the song emerged after he began looking back through &#8220;old photographs&#8221; and rediscovered &#8220;memories and music from many different periods.&#8221;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">

</figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most poignant moment arrives with the line, &#8220;But this is where I&#8217;m exactly meant to be&#8221;. It feels less like a conclusion and more like an affirmation. A realization that there is nothing left to prove. As Teanko puts it, &#8220;I&#8217;m no longer moving forward because I have to. I&#8217;m moving forward because I want to.&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We could imagine <em><strong>Between Two Selves</strong></em> fitting well into a coming-of-age film for older generations, perhaps alongside the reflective emotionality of <em><strong>The Secret Life of Walter Mitty</strong></em> or the intergenerational warmth of <em><strong>About Time</strong></em>. There is also something reminiscent of artists like <strong>The War on Drugs</strong>, <strong>Bruce Springsteen</strong>, and <strong>The Cure</strong> in the combination of forward-moving rock energy and introspective songwriting.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ultimately, <strong>Teanko</strong> has created a song about looking backwards without becoming trapped. It reminds us that reinvention doesn&#8217;t have an expiration date. We have added <strong><em>Between Two Selves</em></strong> to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of <strong>Teanko</strong>, including <strong><em>Midrange</em></strong>, and <strong><em>Apple Pay. </em></strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Spotify Embed: We still believe the voice" style="border-radius: 12px" width="100%" height="152" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" loading="lazy" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/4GuqGtQx01ryyPdXBKn4OL?si=3d5d99fbcc5146c7&amp;utm_source=oembed"></iframe>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Drawing us in with a cosmic frequency and a dimensional guitar soundscape, <strong>Teanko</strong> opens <strong><em>We Still Believe the Voice </em></strong>with a high emotional quotient and instrumental intricacy before sharing high concept prose. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We experience the thought-provoking lyrics, &#8220;You can change a photograph, paint a smile upon a face, everybody knows by now, pictures can be rearranged&#8230;&#8221;. We absolutely love the philosophical depth that emerges and the overarching, futuristic message of the song. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In essence, <strong><em>We Still Believe the Voice</em></strong> is an experimental track designed to explore whether music can still create a genuine emotional connection in an age of AI-generated content. As technology makes it increasingly difficult to distinguish between what is real and artificial, <strong><em>We Still Believe the Voice</em></strong> asks whether a voice can still move listeners regardless of how it is created, with the hook: &#8220;Is it the song, or the voice?&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teanko ponders this notion, followed by a set of epic guitar solos! We definitely appreciate the cinematic allure and the deeply human nature of what actually manifests. We could also imagine this being featured in an episode of a TV show like <strong>Black Mirror,</strong> which aligns perfectly with the concept of the song. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="1020" height="1020" data-id="57541" src="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?resize=1020%2C1020&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-57541" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?resize=1020%2C1020&amp;ssl=1 1020w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?resize=632%2C632&amp;ssl=1 632w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?resize=1536%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?resize=2048%2C2048&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/We_still_believe_the_voice.png?w=1254&amp;ssl=1 1254w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>
</figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We learn that <strong><em>We Still Believe the Voice</em></strong> was written and produced by <strong>Teanko</strong>, the project of Dutch singer-songwriter <strong>Theo Konst</strong>. It turns out that the AI vocal model was trained exclusively on more than thirty years of Konst&#8217;s own recordings &#8211; making the technology an extension of his voice rather than a replacement for it. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What makes the release really unique is its thoughtful approach to AI in music. Instead of presenting artificial intelligence as the main attraction, <strong>Teanko</strong> uses it to explore themes of authenticity, memory and artistic identity with his own unique sound. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We are in awe, and have added the emotionally resonant song to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of <strong>Teanko</strong>, including <strong><em>Midrange, </em></strong>and<strong><em> Apple Pay. </em></strong></p>
