Enticing us with elegant and enigmatic keys before immersing us with textured and celestial synth layers, Tang opens his latest release, Broken Promise, with an evocative vocals and the vulnerable lyrics, “Don’t know who you are, I never know what you’re thinking, please let me look through you…”

The narrative of the song goes on to tell the somewhat melancholy story of a relationship from our protagonist’s perspective. Broken Promise was conceived when Tang was 20 years old, whilst still a university student at The New School in New York City.

Speaking on the track, Tang says, “This song holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the first songs I’d ever written entirely by myself. And after experiencing moderate success locally in Hong Kong with my previous releases which were both covers, I thought it was time I released something original”.

We love the emotional delivery and vocal harmonies that Tang creates within his universe. A stand out lyric is the emotive, “I don’t know if I could live, you just treat me like a masochist…”

The electro R&B features production by Silins and Marc Benjamin, and we are here for the fusion of futurism and iconic R&B vibes that Tang has brought to life with his debut offering.

The rising artist is based in Hong Kong, and Broken Promise serves as a follow-up to his previous effort, a cover of Anita Baker’s Caught Up in the Rapture. We also love Tang’s cover of Roxy Music’s Love Is the Drug.

We are also really excited to hear the Spanish version of Broken Promise, which Tang decided to record with a renewed interest in learning the Spanish language during lockdown.
