By now you might have noticed our obsession with STREAMER, having featured the powerful and dramatic single, Time Flies By, and Festival, which served as a sonic odyssey through euphoria and introspection. Naturally, when we heard that the band was back with The Island, we were curious to say the least and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

The track opens with a mysterious, rising guitar soundscape with waves crashing, akin to the opening scene of an epic movie. The opus expands with philosophical, metaphorical prose and astral riffs with luscious orchestral string details before exploding into an immersive, holistic and anthemic energy.

We feel immersed in STREAMER‘s universe, reminding us of early Coldplay – iconic with a high emotional quotient and lyricism that feels relatable and inviting, both literally and emotively. We can hear the crowd singing this in unison with the band, and feeling every note of the transcendental guitar solo.

Knowing that manifestation is real, imagine our delight in finding out that the band had booked a slot at Glastonbury this year following the release of their single, Festival! With reference to The Island, the band confess, “The Island is a song that is nostalgic, yet uplifting and full of hope and joy. It resonates with anyone who has lost someone close. We have a strong affinity with the sea and the Western Isles, as indeed our loved ones did before us.”

They add, “The Island weaves together themes of love, loss, memory, and belonging. Anchored by rich, emotional vocals and a surging soundscape that rises and falls like ocean swell. The track is a deeply personal reflection on grief and the enduring connections we hold to those we’ve lost — and the places that keep them alive in our hearts.”

STREAMER are cementing their blend of emotional lyricism with sweeping production, lush instrumentation, and anthemic choruses evoking both introspection and euphoria. The Island offers a sonic journey through memory and healing, ideal for everything from solitary walks to Saturday nights at Glastonbury. The band is comprised of Tom (vocals, guitars, keys), Jez (bass, backing vocals, keys), and Tom’s son Freddie (drums, percussion)!

We have added The Island to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate videos from their upcoming Glastonbury set, and continue to stream STREAMER‘s exquisite, growing discography!

STREAMER’s latest single, Festival, is an electrifying foray into the vast emotional and spiritual potential of music, cementing their burgeoning reputation as pioneers of a genre they call indie trance. The track is a celebration of unity, joy, and the transcendence found in collective musical experiences. Yet, like much of STREAMER’s work, it carries a subtle critique beneath its euphoric veneer.

From the opening moments, Festival envelops us in a pulsating, transcendental EDM energy. Ethereal ad-libs weave through an intricate tapestry of sound, grounding the track in a spiritual nuance that sets it apart from traditional festival anthems. STREAMER deftly balances the cosmic build, a slow, deliberate ascent that feels as if it’s reaching toward the heavens, with an explosive dance-pop drop. This dynamic interplay mirrors the highs and lows of human connection, creating a soundscape that feels both intimate and universal.

Festival is undeniably crafted with live audiences in mind. Its sing-along chorus beckons to throngs of festival-goers, promising an experience of communal catharsis. The Europop-adjacent dance energy is infectious, conjuring visions of Tomorrowland’s electrified crowds or the sunlit euphoria of Coachella. But STREAMER doesn’t stop at delivering a feel-good anthem. Lyrics like “Welcome to the sideshow” hint at a darker undertone, a commentary on the growing commodification of live music and the dominant role of DJs in the festival circuit. This line positions STREAMER as both participants in and critics of the festival culture, acknowledging the magic while questioning its shifting priorities.

STREAMER’s strength lies in their ability to create a sound that is as complex as it is accessible. Comprising Tom (vocals, guitars, keys), Jez (bass, BVs, keys), and Tom’s son Freddie (drums and percussion), the band epitomizes a cross-generational approach to music-making. Their blend of seasoned musicianship and youthful energy results in a unique synergy. The rich layering of organic instrumentation, searing guitar riffs, pulsating basslines, and textured vocals, merges seamlessly with state-of-the-art electronic production.

The track’s finale, marked by a crescendo of vocals and a blistering guitar solo, serves as a reminder of STREAMER’s live prowess. Tom’s use of the Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, coupled with the band’s meticulous integration of Roland e-drums, Ableton Push, and orchestral arrangements, showcases their commitment to innovation. Every element feels deliberate, contributing to a soundscape that bridges rock’s visceral energy with trance’s hypnotic allure.

By blending the organic intensity of rock instrumentation with the expansive, rhythmic precision of trance and electronica, STREAMER’s self-coined genre of indie trance feels refreshingly original. Festival captures the genre’s essence, a sonic journey that is both deeply introspective and ecstatically outward-facing. The band’s commitment to keeping live music at the forefront shines through, making their critique of DJ-dominated festival lineups all the more poignant.

STREAMER’s live performances, honed over years of playing to large audiences, are reportedly transformative. The synergy of Tom, Jez, and Freddie is palpable, their passion resonating with audiences of all ages. With tracks like Festival already well-tested on the live circuit, STREAMER is poised to redefine festival music for a generation seeking connection, depth, and transcendence.

We have added the opus to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TRIPPY and TIMELESS playlists, whilst we continue to explore STREAMER’s wider discography, including Possessify, Time Flies By, and New Best Friend!

Establishing the mood with an immersive soundscape and haunting keys with a cerebral fuzz frequency, STREAMER open Time Flies By with dramatic flair and a raspy vocal similar to Leonard Cohen, as they take us on a gripping, narrative-driven journey laced with inspiration.

The opus expands with a subversive bassline and astral strings, evolving into a fierce and high octane techno-adjacent beat tapping into a genre expansive sound that we are obsessed with. The overarching energy of the composition is boundless and dimensional, but it is the core of the message that truly cuts through.

The lyrics of Time Flies By convey the struggle and realization of two individuals who feel trapped in their monotonous and unfulfilling routines. The first verse describes a man at a train station in the rain, symbolizing a dark and dreary point in his life. He reflects on the years spent working towards a mundane desk job, which now feels like a burden on his chest. He recognizes the need to create space for himself to breathe, rise, and dare to feel alive again, as he feels he has lost his soul to the distractions and passivity symbolized by the “Netflix train.” This marks a pivotal moment where he decides it’s time to reignite his passion and light the flame within.

The second verse mirrors the man’s experience but focuses on a woman who is also feeling the weight of her responsibilities and the passage of time. She is late for an important call, emphasizing her constant struggle to meet demands and expectations. She reflects on the years spent reaching her current position and the irreversible effects these years have had on her, including physical signs of aging. Her efforts to shine and succeed seem futile, akin to chasing waves that have already passed. Like the man, she has lost her vitality and sense of purpose in the routine and escapism of watching Netflix. The call to reignite her inner fire and find meaning becomes clear.

The chorus emphasizes the central message of the song: the importance of living a life true to one’s needs and desires. It highlights the necessity of actively engaging with life to experience joy and love fully. The repeated line “time flies by at the weekends” suggests that time feels fleeting when one is happy and fulfilled, contrasting with the sluggish passage of time in monotonous routines. The urgency to seize the present moment and make the most of it is underscored by the realization that time is most tangible and precious when one feels truly alive and high on life.

We learn that the dynamic three-piece band hails from Scotland and Kent, seeking to define a unique genre called ‘indie trance,’ blending layered vocals, gripping guitar hooks, and trance electronica. Their live performances are known for their heart-pumping energy and broad appeal across generations. With members in their 50s and a wealth of experience, their music is a testament to their refined skills and ability to captivate large audiences.

Time Flies By is a dramatic anthem about the importance of doing what you love and making the most of time, and was inspired by band member Tom’s shift from corporate life to music. Speaking on the release, STREAMER share their wisdom by saying, “Time Flies By is about self-awakening and courage. Do the things you love, ‘Time flies by when you feel this high!’”

Fans of Pink Floyd will be able to connect with the composition, although there is no doubt that STREAMER are manifesting a universe of their own with powerful drops and riffs, rich vocal textures and intricate musical layers, including classical influences and modern electronica.

The band is comprised of Tom on vocals, guitars, keys, Jez on bass, backing vocals, keys, and Tom’s son Freddie slaying on drums and percussion. We love STREAMER‘s sound, and have added Time Flies By to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to explore the band’s wider discography, including Possessify, and their album, Dare To!
