Our obsession with franxie seems to grow with every listen. We last featured her for delivering raw emotion and cinematic intimacy with her evocative sophomore single, Nobody’s Home, so when we heard that the rising star was back with Stone, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Stone opens with an emotive piano performance and atmospheric vocal harmonies before franxie sings, “Like a heavy hand pushing on my chest, let the feeling grow, lay me down to rest, try to take it in, try to catch my breath, with a heavy heart, I have nothing left…”

We immediately connect with the vulnerability that franxie shares with poetic prowess. There is no doubt that Stone has been written from a very real place. Her metaphors are sublime and the piano interludes with cosmic vocals are tear-inducing. Naturally, the song holds a cinematic allure, perfect for a TV show like 13 Reasons Why, or even The Day of the Jackal. We could also imagine it being featured in a film like Voicemails from Isabelle.

There is an undeniable existential thread that runs through the song. In essence, Stone explores the suffocating weight of anxiety, emotional shutdown and the difficult process of learning to let go. franxie explains, “Stone is about letting go and leaning into the emotions instead of fighting them. It’s about anxiety, feeling heavy, and reaching the point where holding yourself up is harder than letting yourself fall.” 

We learn that the bass and electric guitar were contributed by her longtime friend Sofia, and franxie herself acknowledges, “There are mistakes in the recording. It isn’t perfectly in time because it’s built around a live performance… but it also made it feel real.” And that realness is precisely where the song finds its power.

Her evolution as an independent artist is equally inspiring. Having carried this song for almost a decade through performances, voice memos and unfinished demos, she has finally reached the point of releasing it into the world. “I’ve carried this song around for almost ten years. I’m finally ready to let it go and share it with people.” That statement gives the track another layer of meaning. The release itself becomes an act of surrender, mirroring the very message at its heart.

Needless to say, we are in awe of Stone. This is not simply a song about feeling overwhelmed, but it is a reminder that we are not required to carry everything forever. As franxie beautifully puts it, “Sometimes the strongest thing you can do isn’t keep holding yourself up – it’s accepting where you are and trusting that you won’t stay there forever.”
