Absolutely loving Mariano Vivanco’s Dolce & Gabbana campaign debut for Spring Summer 12 menswear. Old school and epic. Definitely pushing Vivanco’s work to new boundaries. Shot in Portofino, Dolce & Gabbana is celebrating Italian cinema – a continuous source of inspiration for the duo – who have creatively directed the campaign as a film interpreted by real actors: Giuseppe Fiorello, Francesco Scianna, Filippo Nigro, Thomas Trabacchi, Primo Reggiani and Chiara Francini.

More images portraying life in a Southern Italian village: a baptism, Sunday with the family, a portrait with mother, at the bar with friends, afternoons at the beach, courting the village beauty, guy talk, a stolen kiss on the docks and a birthday party with relatives are still set to come.

I absolutely love it when a super talented young designer, who may or may not have a limited budget has it totally nailed when it comes down to the basics of “how to launch a collection” in a digital media age. Charlie May‘s presentation (attended by countless bloggers) at The Soho Collective just before fashion week was a brilliant showcase, but in conjunction with traditional press activity, Charlie also launched a really beautiful fashion film to support the SS12 collection. Directed by Mark Gostick and starring Ellen Gibbons at Elite, with Art Direction by Alexxsia Elizabeth, check out the stunning film below featuring music by Chelsea Wolfe.

asher levine: a socio-political zeitgeist film by matt schaff + ian park

After sending out the most eye-catching show invitation in history (see under the cut), uber-progressive young designer Asher Levine has just launched his SS12 collection via a series of rather brilliant initiatives. One of them is a socio-political zeitgeist film, directed by Matt Schaff and Ian Park, centring on the theme of a spreading epidemic.

Images of the pieces themselves from the show itself made possible by BoConcept, Belvedere Vodka, VitaCoco, Eric Alt Salons and Underground shoes were also incredible.

Finally, Asher also collaborated with KARLISMYUNKLE favourite Nicola Formichetti on a line of limited-edition t-shirts, Asher x Nicola, that are now on sale at the BOFFO-designed pop-up store in Tribeca.
