We previously featured SLAPPER for the hypnotic electronica experience, We Kept the Night, so when we heard that the rising producer was back with Disco Decoder, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our review.

Disco Decoder opens with a dimensional synthscape, evoking rippling notions and expanding with a pulsating beat. Astral bell tones draw us in further as we experience a dynamic 80s energy, signature to SLAPPER’s artistry, with hypnotic, almost psychedelic vibes.

There is a cinematic allure that manifests, and there is no doubt that Disco Decoder would be perfect for a sync placement in a film like Drive, or a scene in Heated Rivalry or Euphoria on HBO. It would also be great in a more trippy series like Nine Perfect Strangers.

Speaking on his creative process, SLAPPER says, “Disco Decoder is a retro-futuristic single built around punchy drum machines, shimmering synth textures, and a driving 126 BPM groove that blends robotic energy with bright dancefloor momentum.”

With reference to his inspirations, SLAPPER says, “The track serves as both a tribute to and a modern reinterpretation of the pioneers who shaped electronic and disco music – from the futuristic pulse of Giorgio Moroder and the machine precision of Kraftwerk to the cinematic synth landscapes of Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis, alongside the club foundations laid by Juan Atkins and Frankie Knuckles.”

We love the creative ebbs and flows, stripped-back, meditative motifs, shimmering expansions, and subtle production shifts that bring to life a cohesive tapestry of sound. The music video taps into themes of human connection, escapism, love and intrigue.

As for sonic peers, fans of Tame Impala and Kavinsky would be able to vibe with SLAPPER, but we feel that what the artist is creating is unique to his own design. We are immediately enthralled by the dynamism of the track, and could imagine We Kept the Night being featured in a film like Drive.

We love the 80s adjacent drum rolls that punctuate the track. The production manifests as a cohesive tapestry of sound with a high emotional quotient, taking us on a sublime journey. The sonic ebbs, flows and chord changes keep us mesmerized throughout, whilst the overall compositional nature of the track is brimful of hypnotic changes that are designed to evoke the maximum emotion.

We Kept the Night would be perfect for a festival set at Tomorrowland or Coachella, and we learn that the track is designed to explore themes of “memory, connection, and the kind of nights that never truly fade.”

We Kept the Night comes with a music video featuring footage that brings to life the human connection that SLAPPER intended to shine a light on with the song. SLAPPER says, “The idea behind the track was simple – some nights don’t end. They stay with you, long after they’re gone.”

We learn that SLAPPER is a Romanian electronic artist who creates cinematic, emotionally driven soundscapes fusing synthpop, synthwave, and modern electronica. He is fast becoming known for his signature blend of retro-futuristic textures and melodic storytelling. His music is designed to evoke nostalgia whilst remaining sonically contemporary.

Following the release of his album HOPE in 2025, along with singles like Into the Light and The Break of Day in early 2026, SLAPPER continues his journey with We Kept the Night.
