The third part of Sia’s video trilogy with Maddie Ziegler has arrived. It’s for “Big Girls Cry” and is directed by Sia and Daniel Askill, who also worked together on “Elastic Heart” and “Chandelier.” It shows Maddie in a Lorde’es Tennis Court esque scenario bringing to life her characterful choreography from the previous two videos but amplified and concentrated.

The return of Maddie Ziegler as a wigged and young Sia is totally welcome since the video for Chandelier earlier this year. The concept of the video for Elastic Heart is brilliant, ingenious – fitting the track, the film and Sia’s aesthetic. Yes Shia LaBeouf is overacting, but this is intensely part of the charm. Elastic Heart is directed by Sia and Daniel Askill and choreographed by Ryan Heffington.

In rather incredible pop news, electronic music legend Giorgio Moroder has just announced the release of his first album of solo material in over 30 years and it features a rather extensive and groundbreaking list of pop collaborations including Britney Spears, Sia, Kylie Minogue and Charli XCX. I mean, this is incredibly exciting and somewhat unreal.

1000 Forms Of Fear is Sia’s sixth studio album. Between the fifth album, We Are Born in 2010 – the world of pop music kinda changed and a lot of that was thanks to Sia. Unsurprisingly the first major pop artist to have an array of songs written by the Australian artist was Christina Aguilera for her hugely underrated album, Bionic. I could write for days on why that album is underrated, but this is neither the time or place. Sia’s song writing resume for major artists went from strength to strength (Rihanna, Britney, Beyonce etc.). Personal fame is something Sia never sought as an artist. Her videography pre this era was extremely art driven. There are some stand outs including the video for Buttons. However, the approach taken for this era is unparalleled. She has essentially become the Margiela of music. Anonymous to the extent of which this happened:

What Sia has achieved with 1000 Forms Of Fear (and the album campaign including the Jimmy Kimmel features below) artistically, sonically, culturally and creatively is so inspiring and completely brilliant. Kudos to David Russell and her team for investing in making this a record which fits seamlessly into her discography at the same time as feeling new, mainstream palpable and a beautiful piece of cultural art.

This is just the beginning. OPULENCE marks Brooke’s first official single. Everything up until this point has been just one long teaser. Tracks, videos, cameo appearances, Diesel campaigns, runway shows were just the foundation for someone that clearly has the potential to become an alt-pop superstar. If alignment is anything to go by, the video for Opulence which drops this week is directed by Steven Klein (yeah, I know) with art direction/styling and a lot more by Nicola Formichetti. The track itself was co-written by Jesse Saint James, Sia (who is Exec Producer on the album) and Brooke herself – it first premiered live at the Diesel Venice show last week and officially landed on iTunes today in HQ – and holy shit it is repeat-worthy good.

LA-based music mogul in the making Jesse Saint John told me, “OPULENCE is like a modern day VOGUE. Referencing the underground drag culture we idolized and ended up coming up in. It’s a fun sexy urban song that taps a nerve in all of us. We all wanna feel overly glamorous and decadent at times. It’s an amazing introduction to Brooke Candy, the world is hungry for a girl like her, strong and iconic with an actual message.”

That moment when a mere lyric video for a track pretty much outdoes (and evokes more emotion) than 95% of actual music videos released this year. It is so intelligently crafted, you have to watch it to understand. Here’s Sia’s Chandelier, directed by Scantron – and let’s all take a moment for the iconisation of her hair consistently throughout this campaign, good work David Russell.

Remember last week when we found out dates regarding Sia’s return to pop, as a solo artist? Well, it just happened (because today is March 17) and WOAH. Chandelier can only (well, not only, obviously) be described ‘epic’. That word is hugely overused, in pop culture generally but is completely and 100% warranted in this scenario.

Written by Sia (duh) alongside Jesse Shatkin and produced by Greg Kurstin and Shatkin, the track touches on themes of alcohol/drug abuse/overuse – it’s lyrically pretty raw and tense, coupled with Sia’s searing vocals and a level of production that puts every number one single this year thus far to shame.

The best news you will hear all week. The mastermind behind credible pop since 2011 is delivering her first solo album since her critically acclaimed mainstream success writing for pop artists from Christina to Britney, Beyonce to Rihanna, I am listening to Breathe Me as I write this, which naturally makes me more emotionally excited putting these words down as it was the first song that truly introduced Sia Furler into my universe, Zero 7 collaborations aside.

We Are Born and Some People Have Real Problems, fast became the soundtrack to my early 20s and words can literally not describe how genuinely excited I am for the 2014 album. Marketing from camp Sia (helmed by the talented David Russell of Crush Management) has been brilliant in terms of maintaining the cool and calm credibility of the singer-songwriter in an age where self-promotion has been at the heart of the success of countless artists. The genius Billboard magazine cover story from late 2013 was a beautifully enigmatic visual reference to where one of pop’s saviours sees herself, and in line with this, the subtle promo for the 2014 record featuring a spray-painted fringed hair cut – now synonymous with the artist is the perfect way to announce the official release date of the first single on March 17 – just a week away.
