We previously featured M & J for turning unrequited love on its head with the intelligent and self-aware new single, NOT A LOVE SONG, so naturally, we were curious, and wanted to dig a little deeper into the project’s discography and spotlight their song, She’s COSMIC light.

She’s COSMIC light opens with a layered guitar soundscape with textured percussion and an airy riser as we experience an ad-lib of the title of the track. The track expands into a romantic, cosmic love song about M & J‘s muse – a woman who is extraordinarily beautiful, radiant and uplifting.

There is no doubt that the object of M & J’s desire is otherworldly. She is a source of warmth, hope, and wonder who makes ordinary days feel brighter. The imagery of sunlight, starlight, heaven, and an “ethereal glow” idolizes her and emphasises how captivated we are by her presence.

There is also a playful, intimate side to the song, with references to trust, having fun together, and “climbing on the sun”. The repeated reassurance that “everything will be alright” makes her feel comforting, manifesting as both admiration and affection. Overall, it is about seeing someone you love as a rare, almost magical light in your life and wanting the world to know how beautiful and special they are.

We could imagine the song being featured in the recent Amazon Prime hit, The Last Sunrise, or a TV show like PLUR1BUS on Apple TV.

For some context, the single’s origin story is pretty magical too. It was born from a New Year’s Day sunrise in Bondi, when Jeremy‘s partner Beatrice gazed at the golden light breaking over the ocean and declared it “cosmic light”. The cover art captures that very moment, which forever immortalizes the inspiration behind the tribute to rare individuals who seem to come from another cosmos entirely.

Jeremy says, “It’s a homage to those people in your life that make everything better and because they’re so rare you suspect they’re from another cosmos.”

We love the message and the universe that M & J are creating, and have added She’s COSMIC light to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream NOT A LOVE SONG and anticipate future releases from M & J!
