Our obsession with SERAh seems to grow with every listen. We last featured the high-concept artist project for the dimensional cover of The Cardigans’ My Favourite Game, so naturally we wanted to feature SERAh‘s latest release, Six Degrees.

Six Degrees opens with an atmospheric soundscape featuring an intricate piano production, expanding into a luscious EDM energy. The lyrics are poetic and touch upon the idea of cosmic connection through the universe through the concept of “six degrees of separation.”

For some context, “six degrees of separation” is the theory that any two people on Earth are connected by a maximum of six social connections. We love the concept and the idea of unity and “a small world” that it brings to life.

What SERAh has intelligently done is put it into a philosophical yet relatable song with pristine production value, sublime vocals and a narrative that invites us to introspect as well as feel at one with each other.

There is no doubt that the track has a cinematic allure, and is perfect for a sync placement in a TV show like Heated Rivalry, Nine Perfect Strangers or PLUR1BUS, which tap into notions of either human or universal connection.

Speaking on the release, SERAh tells us, “Six Degrees is a meditation on cosmic connection – the quiet certainty that across all the noise and distance, something is pulling you toward where you need to be.”

We previously featured SERAh when she introduced us to her cinematic universe with her dynamic debut, In Front of Me, so when we heard that SERAh was back with a cover of The Cardigans‘ Favorite Game (originally styled as My Favourite Game), in the wake of the new moon solar eclipse no less, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience!

Favorite Game opens with a dimensional, dark-tropical house soundscape from SERAh, and atmospheric vocals from Summer Rona as she sings the poignant opening lines of the song, “I don’t know what you’re looking for, you haven’t found it baby, that’s for sure, you rip me up and spread me all around in the dust of the deed of time…”

The opus expands with trippy and psychedelic percussion as SERAh we experience a passionate vocal performance, intercut with string chops and an EDM rise and eventual break down, which feels epic, celestial and aligned to SERAh‘s wider discography.

For some context, the original song by the Swedish band is about a failing relationship, where one person tries to make their partner better or save them from themselves. Ultimately failing and feeling a sense of loss and frustration in the “game” of love. 

The lyrics express themes of unfulfilled expectations, the struggle for connection, and the overwhelming feelings of heartbreak and confusion that arise from trying to salvage a relationship with someone who isn’t reciprocating. 

This notion comes to life in SERAh‘s reimagining with conviction and ferocity as her production takes the song to another level! We appreciate the meditative respite before the second verse and the rebuild of the track so that we can experience another epic explosion before a subdued outro.

Visually, as the second chapter in SERAh’s 20-part saga, Favorite Game builds on the post-apocalyptic space fantasy world that was first introduced in In Front of Me, continuing her protagonist Lyra‘s journey through music, visuals, and immersive world-building. We love the lilac tones, and the dystopian-futuristic universe that manifests.

Establishing the mood with an immersive synthscape, SERAh opens In Front of Me with a sense of meditative dimensionality and a cosmic allure as LLOVSA sings, “Late night, fall into the same old old patterns, right but it’s wrong, toxic kinda love’ll kill me slowly, pain I adore…”

The opus expands with an atmospheric riser and builds with timeless drama to unveil a self-realized message as SERAh shares conscious prose about her toxic connection and need for freedom and independence.

The EDM-pop energy is incredible, exhilarating and festival ready with cerebral glitch pop nuances that are captivating. The respite before the second verse creates ebbs and flows for the track which keeps us enthralled throughout. The sonic switch ups are dynamic and the production is literal perfection.

In Front of Me is perfect for a range of synch deals – a reality TV show like Love Island or a massive TV show with similar themes to the message like Euphoria on HBO or Netflix’s Elite. We learn in fact that In Front of Me is the star of its own cinematic universe. It begins the story arc of a sci-fi universe created by DJ and producer SERAh with her muse, Lyra!

SERAh mentions Deadmau5‘s chord progression as a sonic influence that anchors the song, while melodic layers nod to artists like MiTiS, Tails, and Codeko, but there is also no doubt that SERAh is manifesting a universe unto her own (and Lyra, of course) with In Front of Me!

As this is just chapter one of a 20-part animated music video series, we look forward to experiencing the rest of Lyra’s World – a post-apocalyptic space fantasy told through music, visuals, and immersive world-building.
