Establishing the mood with an orchestral and emotive strings arrangement with brooding and intricate piano, Richard Green opens Sea of Memories with cinematic allure and instrumental mastery. We are taken on a poetic journey that ebbs between peace and drama.

The composition picks up tempo and builds with intrigue. We experience a more subversive side of the composer, evoking dramatic flair before a momentary respite leads to a sonic switch up. There is dimensionality to the piece, the intertwining of legato and staccato is refined and perfectly designed to maximise impact.

There is a surrealist energy that manifests – almost channelling Mussorgsky in some ways. We appreciate the dynamism and can imagine this being perfect for the score of a thriller or psychological drama – perhaps a scene from Conclave, The Phoenician Scheme, or even, The Brutalist. The finale taps into a more serene and meditative energy for the conclusion. We feel more at peace, as if the chaos has subsided.

We learn that Sea of Memories is the final track of the first EP in Richard Green’s music trilogy A Journey. The piece is designed to explore the deep theme of reflecting on life’s memories as we approach the end of our days.

Recorded at Studio Elfo near Piacenza, Italy, Sea of Memories truly stands out for its originality and high emotional quotient. Blending cinematic and neoclassical influences, the opus offers a nostalgic yet vibrant soundscape.

Richard Green is a Milan and London-based guitarist and composer who studied music in London for ten years. Since his debut in 2021, he has developed a distinctive style that fuses classical and contemporary elements. The trilogy project features pianist Irene Veneziano and the Archimia String Quartet!

We have added Sea of Memories to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Richard Green, including the entirety of A Journey!
