Drawing us in with textured, syncopated drums and percussion, SATOSHI opens BOUNDARY LIGHT with subversion. The opus expands with cosmic, intertwined melodies with astral nuances as we are taken on an ethereal journey featuring a vocal synth and conceptual prose.

We appreciate the meditative and dimensional energy of the composition. The celestial vocal synths combined with the Björk-esque vocals manifest in a cohesive and psychedelic tapestry of sound.

There is an undeniable cinematic allure and this is cemented with the sonic switch-up into an airy and zen state for the finale of the song. There is a clear connection to the trip-hop giants here. We can hear shades of Massive Attack and Portishead, and BOUNDARY LIGHT also possesses the dreamy sophistication of Air.

The meaning of the track adds another dimension. BOUNDARY LIGHT explores notions of loss, blurred identity and human fragility. It asks what remains when our sense of self begins to dissolve.

There is a strong cinematic allure throughout. We could imagine BOUNDARY LIGHT being featured in a Luca Guadagnino or Sophia Coppola film, or perhaps a neon-soaked sequence in Blade Runner 2049, a psychological passage in Black Mirror, or one of the more introspective moments in Nine Perfect Strangers, or Severance. It would also make sense within the atmospheric worlds of Dark or Mr. Robot.

We also vibe with the tension between the human and technological elements. The vocal performance was created using ACE Studio’s AI singing technology, whilst the composition, instrumentation, production, mixing and mastering were handled by SATOSHI himself.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added BOUNDARY LIGHT to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to explore the wider sonic universe of SATOSHI, including LOTUS, and Lueur.
