Setting the tone with an audio excerpt of Amal Clooney stating, “Abuses of media freedom around the world are stifling speech and shredding the very fabric of democracy” fused with a high pitched panning frequency, rising London-based artist satchit has a clear message with his new single, Lilac Screen.

The artist first caught our attention with his name, satchit. The mantra or phrase, Sat-chit-ananda is a Sanskrit descriptor of the nature of reality in ancient Indian and yogic philosophy. According to vedic definitions, “Some consider sat-chit-ananda to be the same as God (Absolute Reality). Others use it as a term to describe the experience of realizing the unity and wholeness of all existence.”

satchit, who also has a song called New Peace is clear, concise and cohesive with his message, opening the song with profound lyricism, “it’s about time i knew what, they really mean on the news, what, do we have to do to believe? what, do they want our minds to receive?”

The sonic landscape of satchit‘s new single, Lilac Screen is moody and cerebral at first, as the artist questions reality and “the abuses of media freedom around the world and the blend of truth and falsehoods that we consume daily.”

Speaking on the creation of the track, satchit says, “I produced and wrote the track, which exudes a chilled energy throughout the verses that float over clean guitars, multitudes of percussion and distorted synths.”

With the regards to satchit‘s depth and intention, the South London artist says, “It’s a track with a particularly relevant subject matter at the moment, and also a pretty melody that I believe could soothe and resonate with listeners.”

We love the evolution of the track into the polished R&B delivery of the lyrics, “we believe what we see, we receive what we read, without love, what’s the price for peace?”, and the deep message that comes through with Lilac Screen‘s hook, “and it ain’t nothing new, we just acting a fool, our mouths wide open, showing off emotion like it don’t affect you.”

Hailing from Croydon in South London, satchit is a breakthrough artist challenging the boundaries of alternative R&B. The detail in the soundscape and delivery fuses the artist’s culture with the message and has us questioning if ignorance really is bliss…

Speaking further on the song, satchit says “The track addresses different elements of how the news affects us, as well as our responses to what we hear: as though the more we hear, the less we do to combat it.”
