Establishing the mood with bold synth chords, astral bell tones and a psychedelic guitar soundscape, The Elusives open Run Away Into The Night with dimensionality and cinematic allure. We immediately connect with the poetic prowess and the journey that the Irish band is taking us on.

The overarching energy feels hedonistic, connected and taps into notions of escapism when we, as a collective need it the most. There is something ritualistic about the way the track draws us away from the ordinary and into another energetic space. The concept of the night becomes a portal and the outside world temporarily falls away. It’s about surrendering to the moment, following instincts and allowing ourselves to be carried somewhere unknown.

We deeply connect with the psychedelic sensibilities here. The guitar solo really cements this, as do the atmospheric synths. There are echoes of Kavinsky, MGMT and Tame Impala, but there is no doubt that The Elusives are creating something cinematic and euphoric unto their own design.

Run Away Into The Night feels tailor-made for a film sequence where everything changes after dark. We could imagine this soundtracking a Danny Boyle or Nicolas Winding Refn moment, and psychedelic like The OA, Nine Perfect Strangers or The White Lotus.

What makes the story behind The Elusives even more fascinating is the length of the creative journey. Paul Gilligan and Joe Brady began writing together in the mid-90s, were pulled in different directions through the 2000s, and eventually found their way back to each other in 2014. The addition of Laura Hand in 2025 feels like the final energetic piece of the puzzle, with her atmospheric vocals bringing the harmonic weight and ethereal quality the music had been searching for.
