We previously featured Rosetta West as they shared their introspective and universal wisdom with metaphorical, mind-bending opus, Snake 25, so when we found out that the band was back with Circle of Doubt, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Establishing the mood with an intriguing and dramatic guitar riff with atmospheric vocal ad libs and a moody baseline, Rosetta West open Circle of Doubt with an assertive message, laced with introspectiveness as they sing, “Gotta get out, gotta break out, gotta get out of the circle of doubt…”

We love the cinematic allure of the production, and the almost whispered vocal delivery, which gives an almost Tarantino-esque vibe to the piece. As for the message, we totally get it! More often than not, we are stuck in a loop of unknowing, in that sense, the lyricism feels very zeitgeist, but on a philosophical level it also feels universally relatable.

Again, the song is great for synch deals, and we can imagine it in a coming-of-age movie, or a self-realisation drama. We deeply connect with the emotional quotient and the guitar solos are simply sublime!

The pleas of “oh Holy Lord” add a spiritual dimension to the track, which feel perfect for when you are at one with God, and seeking to manifest release from the shackles of the system or the complexes of your inner mind!

We also learn that Circle of Doubt was released to align with the Celtic festival of Beltane. The band tells us how the song is “a story of trying desperately to break out of a Circle of Doubt after being burned out in some kind of epic battle.”

Known for their fusion of blues, psychedelia, and world folk influences, Rosetta West have built a supportive underground following for their art, with founder Joseph Demagore and longtime collaborator Jason X bringing to life their conscious and holistic message.

The finale of the song reverts back to the stripped back guitar and the full circle design of the track, almost looks like the Ouroboros – the symbol of a snake that it is eating itself – representing infinity, renewal and the cyclical nature of life and death.
