Drawing us in with an industrial electric guitar with a melodic organ synth and textured rock’n’roll drums, Roman Cheglov opens Fight with subversion and dimensionality before sharing situational prose with poetic prowess.

We immediately connect with the cinematic energy of the track, and there is no doubt that Fight would be a great fit for a film like Marty Supreme, Sinners, or a cerebral scene in a TV show like Euphoria on HBO.

The Americana nuances are brilliant and we love Roman’s timbre switch-ups from riot to whispered tones to spoken word. The instrumentation is out of this world with a transcendental solo that sends us astral. Speaking on the release, Roman confesses, “Fight captures the internal and external conflicts within the human spirit – the push and pull of love and hate, the constant motion of coming and going.”

We learn that the song was written approximately ten years ago in St. Petersburg, whilst deeply inspired by the music of The White Stripes. It was then recorded in Vienna with professional musicians in just three takes over a four-hour session. Roman tells us, “I have always been into music since my school. Two years ago, I desired to record my songs and to make an album which I plan to release this year. I have found very good musicians in Vienna and we made some recording sessions. The approach is that they listen the song and we record the first impression of them. This song was recorded most live.”

For some background, Roman Cheglov is a 45-year-old singer-songwriter who has carried music in his soul since his school days in Russia. He shares how he is now channeling that lifelong passion into his artistry whilst he is based in Perchtoldsdorf, Austria.
