Setting the tone with intriguing and vibrant layered guitars, we are already hypnotized by Robin Shaw‘s latest release, Today’s Generation. Opening with the poignant lyrics, “Jobs are tough, homeless sleep rough, credit crunch, Sunday brunch, travel more, spend less, Friday nights, what a mess…” Robin begins to deliver a commentary on the state of society and the human condition as it stands today.

Speaking on the release, Robin says, “Today’s Generation is all about various changes we have witnessed in the news and headlines ranging from political movements to environmental issues to employment to pollution to even more serious current affairs such as the current war in Ukraine.”

We love the passion that Robin creates with as he delivers intricate rhymes and channels the zeitgeist fused with a indie-hip-pop hybrid soundscape.

Expanding on his influences and revolutionary intention, Robin says, “The song is inspired by Billy Joel’s rock song ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire‘. I wanted to relay the message of hope though despite all the adversity. As a musician, there has been so much material to absorb and utilise from all the events over the last few years.”

Robin has a unique strength with his play on words, diverse vocabulary and relatable concepts. We really connect with the emotion in his singing voice on the hooks. He says, “I love word play and try to bring as much storytelling and imagery to the forefront of my music.”

“I started writing the song during the start of lockdown,” continues the rising artist from Diss in Norfolk, UK. “I didn’t want to just make a COVID song, though – I wanted to do a song that touches on the various different changes we’ve been going through.”
