My love for a heritage brand in the making is nothing new – especially for those who know me. For 12 years, creator Ben Mackay studied and worked in the field of skateboard manufacturing which undoubtedly gave him the tools to create a close to perfect skateboard brand – Penny Skateboards. Penny boards are super high performance, long lasting and ultra thin – but also won’t break if they roll under a car and you can even ride them barefoot – versatility at its finest, really. FKA Twigs just released her newest EP, M3LL155X with a rather stunning set of videos to accompany. The brilliantly constructed sixteen minute short film includes all of the tracks on the EP – my personal highlight being the appearance of Michele Lamy who is also set to feature in one of ASAP Rocky’s upcoming videos.

A 1.5 tonne sculpture, designed by Doug Jennings and brought to life by Hot House IWG, made of constructed polystyrene in the shape of Rick Owens has just been unveiled at Selfridges to mark 20 years of the eponymous designer and the curation of the Wonder Room. The initiative forms part of The Masters campaign which also includes a series of short films by SHOWstudio hero-ing various designers from Gaultier to Yohji Yamamoto.

The fashion films were created in collaboration with Alexander McQueen by Dustin Lynn, Comme des Garçons by Madeleine Malraux, Dries Van Noten by Christopher Doyle, Gareth Pugh by Ruth Hogben (you even get to see him in drag inspired by Liza Minnelli), A.F. Vandervorst by Stef Viane and Rick Owens by Ruth Hogben. Each designer was commissioned to create a short which interprets “the essence of today’s modern woman: sophisticated, intelligent, confident, stylish, strong and feminine”.

The exhibition itself is curated by award-winning set designer Simon Costin and is open for free at the Old Selfridges Hotel from today until 25 March, 12pm to 8pm and Sunday 12pm to 6pm. You can also watch all of the films online at Selfridges.com and five of the films below.
