Setting the vibe with a riser and alt rock guitar energy with intricate melodies and immersive drums, PRTLND reminisces on his latest single, Burnt Out with the lyrics, “Living on the wild, we were seventeen, lovers on the hide, on a movie scene, do you remember way back when?”

We love the moody and enigmatic, 90s rock soundscape and the picture that PRTLND paints with his lyricism and narrative.

Speaking on the track, PRTLND says “Burnt Out is about love lost. It is a story many people can relate to, of two lovers who thought their love would last forever but slowly burnt out…”

“Burnt Out was written while I was self-isolating in my daughter’s bedroom during COVID. It was initially called Isolation as it brought me back to the feeling of being completely lonely while in a relationship. I could hear the voices and laughter of my family behind the door but couldn’t reach them or be with them”, he adds, discussing the creative process with a very relatable theme.

PRTLND is a one-man band, and the artist communicates his art way playing all of the instruments including guitar, bass and of course vocals.

Lyrical highlights that exemplify the meaning of the loss within Burnt Out include the poetic “Like fire in the snow losing its glow”, the emotive “I’ve been holding a ghost, why do you feel so cold?” and the hook “Forever and a day got lost in the haze, our love burnt out…”

PRTLND cites his main influences as 90s rock, from early Radiohead, Teenage Fanclub, Jeff Buckley, but also Foo Fighters, QOTSA, or Band Of Horses Recently, and he adds “I fell in love with the sound of female artists like Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers or Deep Sea Diver”. We can hear this melt into PRTLND’s sounds, but it is also clear that he is creating his own frequency with his art.
