Natalia Kills x Willy Moon x Angel Haze – Problem Remix

admin — Tue, 11 Feb 2014 20:10:42 +0000

Genuine friendships really do result in the best things. Y’all probably know that Angel Haze (who just walked in the DKNY show at NYFW, yaaas) and Kills are legit best friends – and announced their plans to work together last year (see here for proof). Stage one was the incredible Black Dahlia on Haze’s current album (which reminds me of Slim Shady LP era Eminem, specifically Rock Bottom). Stage two is the official remix of Problem which just went live, somewhere, somehow. Produced by Willy Moon (Kills’ beau), it’s all kinds of immense.

Music Video + Photo Shoot: Natalia Kills – Problem

Directed by her long-time collaborator G comes the (I think it safe to say) long awaited video for Natalia Kills’ first official (considering Controversy was a buzz track) video from her sophomore album Trouble. I’ve heard a lot of the Jeff Bhasker produced record already and the world is in for a treat come September. Q3-Q4 pop offerings are set to drop from Britney, Gaga, Beyonce and Kills in the same month and I have no doubt that Natalia will be giving the big guns a massive run for their money.

Oh and Kills loses the high collars and unleashes her inner sex-beast, which is kinda everything. The video is accompanied by a phenomenal photo shoot by Lane Stewart which features the video’s male protagonist Adonis Bosso.

Redefining Pop with Natalia Kills’ Problem

admin — Wed, 13 Mar 2013 00:38:45 +0000

The first time I heard Problem was about ten months ago. Natalia and I were sitting at The Smile in New York when she played it to me on her MacBook. It hadn’t been mastered, the pace was slightly different from what it is now and it was pretty new at the time, even to her. The next day we went to XL where she performed a live four(ish)-track PA – most of which I have recorded on my phone…somewhere. The set was outstanding and she debuted Problem live for the first time. Teasing the track out has been a long process – with the occasional live set, various leaks and demos surfacing and now the final edit, which went on iTunes today.

I mentioned when the artwork landed a week ago that this album is set to re-redefine pop as it stands – and after you buy/hear Problem – I’d dare you to refute this statement. Kills has single handedly (and when I say single handedly, I fully acknowledge the fact that she has been working tirelessly with visionary Jeff Bhasker on Trouble – but the play-out is and has always been hers) created a new genre/sub-genre with this sound – it’s raw, lyrically perfectly genius and what she described to Brad/MuuMuse as “cuntstrut”.

Natalia has impeccable taste (across music, fashion, culture, creative direction), she outrightly says that she has (I want to use the word) designed this album for herself, but it’s more than that, she’s taking it to another level. Making daring and ambitious moves for a sophomore record where expectations from the core fanbase are ultra-high, but from the industry perhaps lower. To see where it fares will be interesting, but if you like what you hear, buy it, share it, Tweet it, tell your friends, play it in a club, listen to it in the gym because Kills deserves it. No-one works harder at this game and no-one deserves it more.

Single Announcement + Artwork: Natalia Kills – Problem

admin — Wed, 06 Mar 2013 17:52:17 +0000

In six days time, pop music is about to get REAL. It’s been a long time coming. ‘Problem’ the debut single from Natalia Kills’ sophomore album ‘Trouble’ is set to land. I’ve had the honour and pleasure of having Natalia play me a fair few tracks from the album already – Jeff Bhasker’s production combined with Kills’ lyrical genius is a lethal combination. You’re going to be blown away. You can read more about what you can expect from the album in the interview I did with Natalia when I was guest editing Phoenix magazine.

In the meantime, here is the artwork for the single shot by Natalia Mantini. If you’re dying for a taste, there’s a mega-raw demo clip and a couple of live performances on YouTube.

UPDATE – Here is the official track. Delivering riot girl meets grunge-pop princess, Kills is defining pop with Problem. It is utter perfection. Bring on the video.
