Secondly, I had the privilege of listening to another collaborative project in full before it is released this Friday. It is another cinematic masterpiece from DIGITAL 21 and Placebo’s Stefan Olsdal. My introduction to the project was the instrumental of Toi et Moi which you can experience below – it’s a feast of almost jarring electronica juxtaposed with emotional cinematic strings that really tap into the most profound emotions you can imagine. The album itself includes collaborations with singers Cuushe (Japan), Margrét Rán from Vök (Iceland), Helen Feng from Nova Heart (China) and Julienne from Saschienne (France / Germany). My personal favourite is Margrét Rán from Vök on the track Spaces and also the vocal version of Toi et Moi. In a time where music has taken a turn towards less constructed identities, this record made me really happy to experience something so cohesive and art driven – even the paintings pictured here for the artwork are created by the collaborative duo themselves.
