Drawing us in with a vibrant punk-rock energy and an evocative, conversational ad lib, Pent Up! open Up All Night with instrumental mastery and sense of subversion as they take us on a narrative-based and self-reflective journey with their prose.

We immediately connect with the timeless nature of the guitar soundscape, and the charismatic delivery of witty and introspective lyricism from the band. Pent Up! tell us that the song is about, “The anxiety caused by keeping up with a friend w/o an off-switch.”

The meditative trip mid-way though the song has us going inward with luscious vocal textures ,as the song rebuilds into the anthemic, stadium-filling energy that we first experienced. The solo is simply out of this world, and we appreciate the ebbs and flows that the band takes us on, keeping us locked in at every melodic or percussive nuance.

The band confess, “This was recorded in the middle of the summer heat in an un-air conditioned studio with the band playing live – no click tracks, just pure energy… and a lot of sweat. No blood. Possibly a tear or two, but we couldn’t be sure thru all that sweat.”

Up All Night marks the fourth release from Pent Up!, in addition to an EP and double single, and their debut, Self-Titled. We learn that the opus also features guitarist Nick Kurtz, along with Brendan Honeycutt on guitar and vocals, Jay Barrett on bass, and Nate Oelrich slaying on drums.

The creators cite Dinosaur Jr., Foo Fighters, and Social Distortion as some of their influences, which we can feel come through in their soundscape, although there is no doubt that Pent Up! are creating a universe of their own.
