Culture Bites: Google Jacquard, Timo Maas and Paul McCartney, LYRA

As a huge wearable tech enthusiast, I’ve been following the Google story pretty closely – especially considering I’ve been experimenting in the field myself with the camera-enabled biker we designed (read about it on Forbes here). So when the official unveil announcement of the new “Levi’s Commuter x Jacquard by Google Trucker Jacket” came – I actually got pretty emotional and excited! This feels like a massive step towards what so many of us in this field have been trying to achieve. It’s a really enlightening and positive development that is aesthetically pleasing and I cannot wait to try this myself!

On an aesthetic level, it looks like a regular iconic Levi’s jacket. No visible tech, battery packs, add-ons etc. It’s beautiful and when you watch this video, you’ll understand why I became quite emotional over how dope this truly is and how much of a massive step towards human enhancement and where it could take human tech.

Up next are two songs that I wanted to share – one is from Paul McCartney & Wings Vs. Timo Maas & James Teej – Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five – which works as a seamless electro banger but with the vintage feel of McCartney’s voice.

Secondly, meet LYRA – a new artist I saw perform this week with Tasha Love from House of 27. Totally hypnotising performance and I love her visuals – definitely one to watch. Enjoy the track Rabbit In The Headlights below.

Kanye West – Only One ft. Paul McCartney

There are few artists that can drop a track on New Years Eve with minimal social media and still create a massive storm. I mean, I saw minimal but then again Kanye had the support of Kim’s 23.2 million and various other influencers including Theophilius, Virgil and the photographers behind the new artwork – Inez & Vinoodh – not to mention the fact that the buzz track is a collaboration with the iconic Paul McCartney. Ok so basically this was an all guns blazing promo tactic to announce that 2015 is indeed going to see the return of Yeezy.

The track is called “Only One” and features McCartney on keys. It’s very 808s and Heartbreak rather than Yeezus, which is fine considering it channels Donda – Kanye’s late mother in an ode to North West/Nori. It’s beautiful. This is technically the first publicly available recording from what has become a prolific musical collaboration between these two legendary artists, so there is more to come. When everyone else is slapping Iggy on a track, Kanye would tap up a Beatle.
