Drawing us in with reverberating astral bells, cerebral, down-pitched vocal ad libs and an expansive synthscape with a drum riff, OLI opens Can’t Do it Right with introspective prose as she sings, “I’ve been waiting for someone to get me out of this, I’ve been waiting my whole life for me to be better, cos no one tells you when you’re right, they’ll all tell you when you’re wrong…”

The opus expands with poetic prowess and a self-realized nature as OLI shares her philosophical and reflective mindset. We appreciate the bright dimensionality of the sound design and the luscious, ethereal harmonies, coupled with emotive high synths.

The London-based artist, also known as Olivia Masek, blends a moody alt-pop sound with a sharper, conscious edge. Can’t Do it Right feels restless yet reflective. It balances her inner melancholia with a cathartic output. The message is to essentially accept ourselves for who we are – imperfections and all.

The song shows OLI stepping into new ground. Her earlier work leaned softer, but here she finds momentum in her flawed reality. There is a cinematic allure that manifests – perfect for a coming of age story – perhaps something like Amazon Prime‘s The Summer I Turned Pretty or Euphoria on HBO.

It is no surprise that OLI’s artistry is on the rise with debut album including collaborations with cellist Zara Hudson-Kozdoj (Max Richter), and the vinyl edition featuring a duet with Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode!
