Setting the tone with a vibrant and psychedelic electric guitar, Of Love and Lust – OLAL open Spot with atmospheric vocals and lyricism that forms an ode to one’s beloved canine companion.

The opus expands with intrigue and dimensionality to take us on an authentic journey that anyone with a familiar can relate to. Animal rights have never been so important considering the state of the planet, and we appreciate Of Love and Lust – OLAL for bringing to life a story to remind us not only of a human being’s bond with a dog, but the overarching nature of animal consciousness, which is something we should be considering as we move towards ending speciesism on our planet.

We connect with the timeless, electro-rock and roll nature of the composition, which showcases nothing short of instrumental mastery and a conviction and charisma in the prose delivery, particularly as the sounds of a dog are replicated by singer, Rush.

We learn that Of Love and Lust – OLAL is a project being produced and mixed by Londoner Gareth Jones, best known for his work producing and mixing several of Depeche Mode‘s top albums and singles, as well as projects for Erasure, Interpol, Grizzly Bear and Nick Cave.

Band members are scattered across four countries with singer Rush in Berlin, Germany, Kuzman – who plays guitar and synth – in Skopje, Macedonia; producer Gareth “Genius” Jones in London, England, whilst vocalist Christie residesin San Francisco, A-Bomb (drums / percussion / synths) in Asheville, North Carolina, and synth player Skunk is based in Tucson, Arizona.

This diversity is intended to translate into “a musical blending that creates a uniqueness” for OLAL, and it certainly does. The band’s exemplary fusion of 80s synth pop vibe, and a more modern EDM energy with elements of rock and roll feels like Of Love and Lust – OLAL are creating a conscious sonic universe of their own.

It’s worth noting that the proceeds from this ode to our friendly canine friends are being donated to the 501c3 pet rescue charity, Rescue Me.
